Resthaven Aberfoyle Park

Design

Resthaven Aberfoyle Park is shaped by a series of central gardens, which define both the experience of resident life and the surrounding built form. These spaces establish a model of external living, where landscape is embedded within the architecture to support everyday use and connection.

Guided by principles that prioritise a meaningful relationship to nature, the internalised gardens operate as both functional and sensory environments. They support passive surveillance and efficient staff monitoring, while creating calm, accessible settings that encourage residents to engage with the outdoors and with each other.

Access to natural light and clear orientation are fundamental to the planning approach. Resident bedrooms are arranged along single-loaded, articulated corridors, providing direct visual connection to landscaped areas and nearby communal nodes. This supports intuitive wayfinding and reinforces a continuous relationship to the external environment.

Entries to each wing open into generous shared living areas, establishing a sense of openness and social connection. These spaces are directly linked to internal gardens, allowing long views through the building and creating a welcoming, light-filled threshold that reinforces a familiar and domestic character.
