Aldinga Library

Design
Aldinga Library is leading the way in redefining the role of the library as a learning and community space, with the new library space offering a variety of social, leisure, educational, community and civic facilities.

Reimagining the library required a unique design approach, with the design team challenged to think about what transforms space into a destination for many different users. In response, the team drew inspiration from retail design principles to create comfortable and engaging environments within that appealed to a wide and diverse age demographic within the one open space. A clever use of materiality, volume, colour and graphics helped define ‘rooms within rooms’ without the use of walls and partitions to define the spaces, all culminating in an open floor plate that can support future changes in library functions, operations and configuration.
