St Francis de Sales College in Mount Barker has seen the junior school reimagined with a new 80 place ‘Alive’ Catholic Early Care Learning Centre and a series of learning communities for Reception to Year 6 children.
The design responds to the beauty of the School site; celebrating the natural setting, hillside topography and connection to Laratinga wetlands, where water is used as a symbol of connection through the site with a natural landscaped water course that runs from Senior to Junior School and culminates in a Rain garden near the new Gymnasium.
Indoor and outdoor learning spaces embrace the pedagogical principles of Reggio Emilia, with inquiry based, self-directed and interdisciplinary practice where children engage in experiences that provide for the development and expression of their innate spirituality.
