Hilton Shopping Centre is a Town Square redevelopment centre for the City of Fremantle in the suburb of Hilton. Situated on a primary distributor route between the Kwinana freeway and Fremantle, the centre serves both the local residential surrounds and the busy commuter route.
The site sits at the approach to the crest of a topographical rise, sweeping up toward the west along South Street in an east west direction and up Paget Street to the intersection of South Street.
Inspiration was drawn from the movement of these roads and the dynamic nature of the intersection in large striking façade canopies that rise up the respective streetscapes and crescendo in a recessed corner element housed by a small café, nestled within the existing street trees. A combination of rhythmical glass and aluminium clad facades interface with the streets and pedestrian experience allowing transparency whilst also reflecting the movement of the busy streets.
